Detroit Comedian Joel Fragomeni will host a new six-week session of the Advanced Stand-Up Comedy Class at Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle beginning on Saturday, September 10th. The class includes hours of critiques of stand-up comedy routines, field trips to local open mics, and in-depth lectures on the business of stand-up comedy. Topics include:
- Comedy writing including set structure, tags, call backs, segues, crowd work, dealing with hecklers and common mistakes made by comedians
- Performance, including stage presence, proper clothing, and the effective use of notes
- The ins and outs of emceeing an open mic
- How to book and run your own comedy show
- Creating promotional material such as headshots, bios, and demo videos
- The types of comedy shows and their pay scales from open mics, to showcases, clubs one-nighters, college and corporate shows
Each Saturday class begins at 2pm and last approximately three hours (there will be no class on October 1st). The class culminates in a public showcase performance at Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle.
To enroll, students must have completed Bill Bushart’s “Comedy 101” workshop or have been performing stand-up for one year and assembled seven minutes of material. If you have questions, please email Joel Fragomeni.
